How and why we use cookies
This website sets one cookie, and it exists only to remember your cookie choices. We don’t use cookies to track you across other websites, we don’t run advertising cookies, and we don’t currently run analytics cookies of any kind.
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your browser or device. Cookies let a site recognise your browser on a later visit, which is how preferences such as your consent choices survive from one page to the next.
The law that governs this in the UK is the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR), as amended, read alongside the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Under PECR we may set strictly necessary cookies without asking, because the site can’t do what you’ve asked of it without them. For anything beyond that, we ask for your consent first.
Your choices
A consent banner appears on your first visit to http://www.thegini.co.uk. You can accept all cookies, reject all non-essential cookies, or open the preference panel and decide category by category. Strictly necessary cookies can’t be switched off, since the site depends on them to work.
Your choice is recorded for one year, after which we’ll ask again. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by reopening the consent preferences from the cookie icon on the site. Withdrawing consent doesn’t remove cookies already stored on your device, so you may also want to clear them through your browser, as described in section 6.
Our consent banner is provided by CookieYes Limited, a consent management platform. CookieYes records your preferences and blocks non-essential cookies until you allow them.

Our hosting, security, and form infrastructure may also set short-lived strictly necessary cookies. These come from the content delivery and bot-protection layer that sits in front of the site, from the website platform itself, and from our contact and newsletter forms while you’re completing them. Cookies of this kind carry no marketing or profiling function, they expire when your session ends or shortly afterwards, and PECR permits them without consent because the site couldn’t deliver the page or accept your form submission without them.
Analytics
We don’t currently use Google Analytics or any other analytics or measurement tool on this website. No cookie on the site counts your page views, measures how long you stay, or reports your behaviour to a third party.
Should we introduce analytics later, we’ll add the provider and its cookies to the table in section 3, and the consent banner will ask for your permission before any analytics cookie is set.
Third-party content
Some pages may include content hosted elsewhere, such as an embedded video or a document viewer. A provider of embedded content can set its own cookies once the content loads. Where such content appears, our consent manager holds it back behind a placeholder until you agree to the relevant category, so nothing loads and no cookie is set until you’ve made that choice.
We remain responsible for making sure any third-party cookie set through this website meets the requirements of PECR and the UK GDPR.
Managing cookies in your browser
Every mainstream browser lets you block or delete cookies independently of our consent banner. Bear in mind that blocking all cookies will stop parts of this and other websites from working properly.
